Giant River Prawn, also known as Konchu / Attu Konchu in Malayalam, Attu Eral in Tamil is the most important species of all the freshwater prawns of commercial significance. Maximum attainable size of the species is 30-32 cm. It contributes a good fishery in Kerala during the monsoon and post monsoon months. Its capability to grow in fresh water and low saline water, maximum growth rate, feeding pattern and hardy nature etc make it most suitable for culture in many countries.
